CarSpotz is a car-spotting game. This page explains plainly what the app can access, what is sent to our server, and what stays on your phone.
CarSpotz has no accounts — no email, no password, no sign-in. You are identified only by a random device ID and, if you choose one, a leaderboard handle. Your collection and spot photos are stored on your phone. A few features send data to our server, and the free app shows ads from Google AdMob. All of it is listed below.
CarSpotz uses your camera to photograph cars you spot. License plates are blurred on your phone before the photo is used. To identify the car, the blurred photo is sent to our server (hosted on Railway) and then to an AI service, which returns the make, model, year range and body style. We do not keep the photo on our server; we record only your anonymous device ID and whether the photo showed a car. Photos of your spots are saved on your phone, in the app's own storage. If you add a photo from your library, the same process applies.
If you allow location, CarSpotz uses it to show nearby car meets and to pin your spots on a map. Spot locations are blurred to a rough area (about 500 meters) before they are saved or sent, never your exact position. You can turn location off at any time in iPhone Settings.
If you pick a handle, your device ID, handle, XP, spot count and level are sent to our server for the leaderboard. Handles appear publicly on the leaderboard, so don't use your real name. The monthly top spotters may receive a discount code for the 2AM store. If you add a car to the catalog or post a car meet, the details you enter (such as make, model, year range, or meet time and place) are sent to our server, and meet listings can be seen by other users. Please don't post personal information in a meet.
CarSpotz is free and shows ads through Google AdMob. We set ads to non-personalized and treat the app as child-directed for ad purposes, so ads are not chosen from your activity across other apps and websites, and CarSpotz does not ask permission to track you. Google may still collect technical information such as device type, operating system, IP address, and how ads perform in order to deliver ads and prevent fraud. See Google's privacy policy for how it handles that information.
Your collection and photos live on your phone, and deleting the app removes them. Leaderboard entries stay while the leaderboard runs, or until you ask us to remove them. Our server keeps ordinary technical logs (such as IP address and request time) for security and troubleshooting. To ask us to remove your leaderboard entry or anything else tied to your device ID, contact us below.
All network requests use HTTPS. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.
CarSpotz is meant for teens and adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it. Please only photograph cars from a safe place, and never use the app while driving.
If this policy changes in a way that affects what data the app accesses or how it is used, we'll update the effective date above and, for material changes, note it in the app.
